Beyond Tables: Building the Multimodal Lakehouse with Apache Doris 5.0
Mingyu Chen · VeloDB / Lei Xu · LanceDB
About this session
AI is reshaping the lakehouse beyond traditional rows and tables. As applications increasingly work with structured data, text, embeddings, images, and other multimodal content, the data infrastructure underneath them must evolve as well. In this session, we’ll explore how Apache Doris 5.0 is extending the lakehouse toward multimodal analytics and retrieval. We’ll look at a real-world Doris + Paimon use case from Kuaishou, and then go deeper into AI-native data infrastructure with Lance—showing how open data formats, vector retrieval, and analytical engines can work together across AI and analytics workloads. Together, these perspectives point toward a more open Multimodal Lakehouse: one where the same data can power search, analytics, retrieval, and AI.
