Doris Summit 2026Day 2 · From Streaming Data to Trusted Context

Growing a Data Tree in Apache Doris

Jayson Minard

About this session

This session shares a real-world transition from a centrally managed ClickHouse warehouse where data ultimately dead-ended with a team that was responsible for maintaining it, but was not the team actually using or depending on it. The result was a familiar pattern: operational teams either built their own data stores or relied on a corporate store through an intermediary team that sat between the data and the people who cared about it most. We inverted that model with Apache Doris. Instead of one central team owning everything, we built a trusted Doris data foundation with high-quality, clean base tables, then helped other teams bring their data into the shared platform. From there, each team could build its own views and materialized views around the use cases it actually cared about — from BI and fraud prevention to content moderation, recommendations, and AI. The interesting part was not simply moving from ClickHouse to Apache Doris, but changing who owns the data, who is responsible for its quality, and who gets to turn it into useful data products. The experience also raised practical questions around trust, ownership, governance, and how much centralization is actually helpful when the people closest to the data are the ones who need to make decisions with it.
